BRISBANE - Outstanding sprinter Falvelon has been named Brisbane Turf Club Horse of the Year.
Competing against Australia's best sprinters, Falvelon won four races last season, including the group two Carlton Cup (1200m) in which he beat subsequent Doomben 10,000 winner and Stradbroke runner-up Mr Innocent.
Wet tracks were blamed for Falvelon'sdefeats when he finished second to Sports in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and third to Mr Innocent in the 10,000.
The stallion also was runner-up at group one level to Testa Rossa in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) during the autumn carnival in Melbourne.
The award was personally significant for Falvelon's trainer Danny Bougoure.
In 1983 and 1984 Strawberry Road, trained by Bougoure's father Doug, won the Horse of the Year award.
Falvelon will resume racing in the group two Chirnside Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield.
