It was incredible that the $584,492 Pick 6 two weeks ago was struck with a randomly selected Easybet.
But it does not surprise the TAB's Michael Dore.
"For Pick 6 betting, between 44 per cent and 59 per cent of the people use Easybet.
"They represent between 23 per cent and32 per cent of the turnover.
"Easybets are half the tickets and a third of the turnover."
The 11-person syndicate from Kaiaua's Bay View Hotel which struck the big pot operated on the Ellerslie meeting last Saturday spent $220 on their Easybet.
For that they received five horses in each of the first two legs and two each in the remaining four legs.
"The Easybet Pick 6 options tend to load up the numbers at the front end," said Dore.
This time punters will have the option of selecting some legs and having the computer pick the remaining legs.
"For example, you could give your numbers for legs 1, 2 and 5 and ask for the computer to do your selections for legs 3, 4, and 6."
That option was available for the first time for the Ellerslie jackpot two weeks ago, but the TAB barely promoted it and Dore said it was hardly used. "The Easybet option we're promoting this time is the $8 bet of two horses in each of first the two legs and one each in the last two legs.
"What you need to make a really successful Pick 6 is thousands of people spending small amounts, not a few people spending quite large amounts."
