Motorsport: Supercars summit

Motorsport New Zealand and the V8 Supercars governing body Avesco will meet in Wellington tomorrow to try to resolve the impasse over the dates for next year's round of the V8 Supercars series at Pukekohe.

The event is scheduled for mid-April, a week after the New Zealand round of the world rally championship.

Avesco head Tony Cochrane said the dates could not be changed, but the events could co-exist a week apart.

He said it would be an exciting double for New Zealand motorsport and for fans coming to New Zealand for the rally and V8s.

Cochrane conceded that if the talks failed, it was possible New Zealand would not have a V8 Supercars round next year.
