The NRL have issued Cronulla forward Andrew Fifita with a breach notice due to his on-field support for Kieran Loveridge.
Fifita took the field in multiple matches this season with "FKL" - "For/free Kieran Loveridge" written on his wrist tape.
In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, the NRL confirmed the investigation into Fifita's actions was complete and the controversial Sharks star had been issued a breach notice.
Fifita met with the Integrity Unit on Tuesday and has five business days to respond to the notice.
Loveridge, a friend of Fifita's, is currently in Goulburn Super Max prison serving a 10 year sentence for the one-punch killing of Thomas Kelly.
In September, Fifita maintained he did not regret his show of support for Loveridge.
"From my belief and everyone knows the story on my friendship and my family know what it meant," Fifita said. "I have no regrets about that. I know it was wrong from a public's (perspective) looking inside. I couldn't speak about it. I'm pretty positive and upbeat about it.
"I was helping out a mate. That's all that matters. He wasn't doing too good at the time. I gave him the boost that he really needs. I know he is doing well."
Fifita was overlooked for the Four Nations squad as a result of the investigation.
