KENT, England - The horror run continues for New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell, who included a quadruple bogey nine on his way to an opening 80 at the European Open here today.
Compatriot Mark Brown wasn't much better at the London Club course, shooting a five-over 77, leaving both likelyto miss the cut.
Campbell, who managed 17-over through two rounds at the PGA Championship at Wentworth last week, never recovered today from an embarrassing performance on the par-five 12th hole, when he put two balls out of bounds off the tee.
A former European Open champion, Campbell's eight-over effort bared little resemblance in form to the player who captured the title seven years ago in Ireland.
He opened today with a birdie on the 10th hole but bogeyed his second before his disastrous nine.
Bogeys followed at his sixth and eighth holes before a double bogey on the ninth hole saw Campbell make the turn at eight-over par. He somehow recovered to play the second nine all-square.
Brown, who was competing four groups ahead of Campbell, is headed for his third weekend off in succession after a round that included two birdies but also a double bogey on the dreaded 12th hole.
Denmark's Anders Hansen eagled his penultimate hole to lead on seven-under 65, one shot clear of four players - South African Thomas Aitken, Sweden's Peter Hanson, England's Sam Little and India's Jyoti Randhawa.
