Netball: Van Dyke moves

Irene van Dyk has shocked the Capital Shakers netball franchise by opting to play for Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic next year.

The Wellington union was the driving force behind van Dyk's move to New Zealand in 2000 and the ace shooter has become a crowd favourite in the capital.

Van Dyk said her move was based on July's world championships as it would allow her to play with fellow New Zealand squad members Jenny-May Coffin, Amigene Metcalfe and possibly Victoria Edward.

Shakers chairwoman Glenda Hughes said Wellington would be "gutted".

Van Dyk will live in Wellington and commute to Hamilton during the season.
