Jonny Reid landed the much sought-after first A1 Grand Prix for the New Zealand team today on the Sentul International Circuit in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The pole winner dominated the sprint race preceding the feature race.
Reid was ecstatic with his first victory in the World Cup of Motorsport.
Taking the lead in the rolling start, the New Zealander sailed through the first turn with amazement that behind him positions from the starting grid were askew.
"This is a very emotional feeling for me. The whole team has been working really, really hard and the result is fantastic as we came back from 16th in practice to the pole and now the win," Reid said.
"I stayed focused and I'm totally over the moon with what's happened. Now we've got to re-focus and get the job done."
Reid ended up with a margin of 0.738-seconds.
With New Zealand's win, Reid, who took over as driver from Matt Halliday this week, was start from the pole in the feature race.
