The final round of the national Formula Challenge single-seater motor racing series in Taupo on Saturday promises to be an exciting one.
Just one point separates long-time series leader Dale Williams from former kart star Gene Rollinson with Formula Ford front-runner Simon Richards and former North Island Pro 7 series champion,Garry Bradburn, tied in third place less than 20 points behind.
With points up for grabs for qualifying and racing, action at the tight, technical Taupo circuit will be intense.
Williams, 23, an apprentice panel beater from Auckland , has been the revelation of the series this season.
Since making his debut win in April, he has been consistently among the front-runners.
Bradburn, 44, from Orakei, Auckland, took an early lead in the points standings, but consistent top three results saw Williams slip past at the rain-shortened second round and ease ahead at the third.
Rollinson 19, a five-time national kart champion also from Albany, forced himself into title contention at the third round, setting the fastest lap time in both qualifying sessions and scoring a break-through win in the second race to pass Bradburn and Richards in the points standings and challenge Williams for the overall series lead.
Points standings:
Dale Williams 213 points; Gene Rollinson 212; Simon Richards, Garry Bradburn 197; Josh Franklin 162; Drew Russell 153; Shane Charlton 139; David Westall 127; Grant Prince 73; Mark Tapper 53.
