The NZ Superbike series has signed Castrol again as the naming rights sponsor. The five-round Motorcycle NZ championship starts at Ruapuna from January 16-17 with rounds at Teretonga, January 23-24, Levels Raceway, January 30-31, Manfeild Raceway, February 27-28 and the final race at the new Hampton Downs circuit, March 27-28.
Car club's season begins
The Auckland Car Club's season opener is at Pukekohe tomorrow and entry is free. There will be six different classes competing and there's a one-hour endurance race late in the afternoon.
Belgians sign Scott
Kiwi woman motocrosser Nikki Scott has been signed up by Diga Racing KTM of Belgium to contest the 2010 Women's World Championship. Also in her contract are the 2010 German Women's Championship and some one-off events in France. Scott is recovering from a broken collarbone. Despite that, she went racing and finished third in the women's race and sixth in the men's - echoes of Katherine Prumm.
Stanaway gets up speed
Hot on the heels of winning the New Zealand Formula Ford championship, Richie Stanaway has been in Germany testing a wings and slicks racecar. He's gaining some seat time in the ADAC Formula Masters car. At recent tests at Lausitzring and Hockenheimring he broke the lap record at both circuits.
A1GP curse
It would seem getting involved with the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport carries a a curse. When the event has appeared here it has been fraught with drama, and now that it's heading to Australia in November there's more strife. The Gold Coast Motor Events Company has severed ties with their naming sponsor because of Nitro's failure to make payments.
