Craig Baird will replace the injured Paul Radisich in the Team Kiwi Holden for the Tasmanian and Phillip Island rounds of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship.
Baird, who offered his services free in gratitude for the chance the team gave him to drive previously, cannot make the Bahrain round because
of commitments to the Porsche GT-3 series in New Zealand. John Faulkner and Simon Wills are in the frame for that drive.
Team Kiwi has leased back the Holden Baird put on pole at Winton in 2004. It has been upgraded to 2006 specification.
The team has been allowed to miss this weekend's round at Surfers without penalty.
Team Kiwi appeal raises $110,000
A public appeal through the ANZ Bank to raise $400,000 for Team Kiwi to meet its deadline of December 1 for next season's new Ford car has already raised $110,000.
Team owner David John says the remains of the Holden that crashed at Bathurst are coming back to New Zealand, but neither the engine nor the gearbox is saleable.
Ford, Holden calendar women
Among the innovative ideas for raising money for Team Kiwi is a calendar featuring six Ford women drivers and their Falcons and six Holden women and their Commodores.
Lowndes has big lead
After his victory in the Bathurst 1000 and dropping his worst result, Ford's Craig Lowndes goes into this weekend's V8 Supercar round at Surfers with a 101-point lead over Holden's Rick Kelly in the championship.
There will be three sprint races.
Revving up for Papakura Targa
Papakura will hum to the sound of Targa tomorrow as the exotic cars come to town.
The distinctive notes of Steve Millen's Ford GTV8 and a Maserati 4200GT will be music to the ears of just about all car enthusiasts. Also chiming in will be a gaggle of Mazda rotaries and some classic Hillman Avengers and Ford Escort BDAs
The cars will be at Pukekohe on Monday before heading for Hawkes Bay.
Tickets for Taupo A1GP on Wednesday
Tickets for the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport meeting in Taupo on January 18-21 will go on sale through www.a1gp.com and Ticketek on Wednesday.
The stands will accommodate 25,000 spectators and there will be room for up to 5000 on grass embankments. Corporate hospitality will account for a further 5000, bringing the crowd total to 35,000.
Tracer to run Ford Falcons
With the 2006-2007 NZV8s season two weeks away, Tracer Motorsport has confirmed it will run three Ford Falcons.
The drivers will be Australian David Besnard, Taupo's Pete Roberts and Aucklander Haydn MacKenzie.
V8 development series at Taupo
The V8 development series starts this weekend at Taupo.
Also on the programme will be Formula First, Star cars, Pro7s, Pre65s, Porsches, muscle cars, Oscas, Super GTs and Super sedans.
