Philadelphia Phillies Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt has apologised after making sexist remarks during a broadcast.
Schmidt, who currently serves as an analyst for Phillies' games on Comcast SportsNet, was discussing a tweet made by Amanda McCarthy, wife of injured Braves starter Brandon McCarthy.
Whoa so much happened. Dislocated your shoulder, made the out, popped it back in, then just walked around normal? But you still can’t do the dishes... seems fishy.
"I have a dishwasher at home myself - my wife," Schmidt said.
"That was bad. Actually, I do the dishes, most of the time."
"You're staring at me," he said to the booth, "Me Too movement."
"Where does that fit in? I'm just trying to be funny, and that's really not the case."
@Phillies I'd like to at least hear an apology from Mike Schmidt for his joke "how does the me too movement fit into this". I tune into a game on Sunday to relax and I hear this guy joking about sexual assault. I don't care if he's a hall of famer, hire a real broadcaster.
Following the incident, Schmidt issued an apology acknowledging that he "made a mistake".
"It was not my intention to offend anyone," Schmidt said in a statement.
"My daughter passionately marches in support of the #MeToo movement in Boston, and I support her in every way. I offer my sincerest apologies to those who may have been offended."
