As the country sat back gobsmacked at Team New Zealand's ability to get up on the foils and crush Oracle in the 2017 America's Cup, surfers nationwide are getting up on their own foils.
Foiling surfboards are now a thing and it's taking the country by storm.
Incredible footage hasbeen captured by AZP Photography of keen surfers foiling along the coastline of Pauanui.
"Hey guys here's another video of the foiling guys doing their thing in Pauanui this time! Awesome to see so many foils in the water," they wrote on Facebook.
Surfers and paddlers are seen catching waves above the waterline with a paddle in hand to help steer, change directions, propel themselves forward or slow themselves down.
There are a number of foilboards on the market with the most common being a stand-up paddleboard or a surfboard with a build-in foil attached at the bottom.
The foils are a more efficient way to harness the ocean's energy and propel yourself forward.
Foils for surf and paddleboards alone could set you back more than $1000.
