Soccer: England and Germany head home

England and Germany have been eliminated from the Euro 2000 soccer championships following losses to Romania and Portugal respectivley.

England lost 2-3 to Romania, after a penalty in the 89th minute gave Romania a place in the quarterfinals.

England only needed to draw the match in Charleroi to make the last eight.

It was Romania's first win in the finals after two draws and six defeats.

In Rotterdam, Sergio Conceicao scored all of Portugal's goals as they dispatched defending champions Germany 3-0.

Conceicao's hat-trick was the first in the finals of the European championship since 1988.

Portugal now face Turkey in quarter-finals while Romania take on Italy.
