The Australian Women's Soccer Association has accepted a demand from the country's Olympic Committee to remove the words "2000 Olympic" from the controversial Matildas' nude soccer calendar. At one stage yesterday the dispute over the unlicensed use of the phrase "2000 Olympic Year Calendar" had threatened to halt the print
run of a further 30,000 copies.

His arm is in a light cast and it will be some time before specialists are likely to give the all clear on his dislocated elbow and broken wrist suffered in a charity international against Tonga six weeks ago.
Ronaldo's so low
Ronaldo's run of miserable luck continues with the Brazilian soccer striker likely to be out of the game for up to five months following surgery to repair a knee injury suffered 12 days ago. Last season he played just 11 games for his club side, Inter Milan, and so far this season has only managed two full games from 11.

Pete Rose, Major League baseball's all-time hits king who was banned for life from any involvement in the game for gambling 10 years ago, has enlisted the support of a new internet site - Sportcut.com - for fans to petition for him to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Tiger the tops
Tiger Woods, winner of eight tournaments this season, including one major, has been voted the PGA Tour's player of the year by his peers. Carlos Franco, the 34-year-old who grew up dirt poor in Paraguay, was voted rookie of the year after winning twice and finishing 11th on the money list with more than $US1.8 million.

Manchester United remain the world's richest soccer club with a turnover of $278.5 million in the 1997-98 season. The rich list survey by accountants Deloitte and Touche revealed that all the 20 wealthiest clubs were in Europe.
