Barcelona facing sanctions after home supporters sing homophobic slurs towards Cristiano Ronaldo

Barcelona could be in trouble after supporters sang 'Cristiano come out of the closet' to Real Madrid striker Ronaldo during Sunday's El Clasico.

The chants from supporters behind the goal were drowned out by whistles from the remainder of the 98,000 supporters inside the Nou Camp but Spanish La Liga chief Javier Tebas could still take action.

La Liga is keen to clamp down on anything that could be interpreted as homophobic behaviour at stadiums and this is not the first time Ronaldo has been targeted.

After Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid in the final derby at the Vicente Calderon two weeks ago supporters sung the same song.

In the same match, Atletico midfielder Koke was accused of a verbal homophobic attack on Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid player was allegedly branded a 'f****t' by the Spain international during an altercation after the Real star had scored a hat-trick.

Spanish radio station Cadena Cope revealed that Ronaldo responded to Koke's alleged slur by saying, 'A f****t with a lot of money, you b******.'

In Sunday's match, it was Ronaldo who had the last laugh though as his side scored late on to rescue a draw in the La Liga tie.

Luis Suarez had put the home side ahead at the start of the second half, before Sergio Ramos popped up with yet another late goal to ensure Real went home with a share of the spoils.

The result saw Madrid keep their six-point lead intact at the top of the table, and their unbeaten run now stretches back 33 matches.
