Cricket: Vincent 'in the frame' for Black Caps

Auckland opener Lou Vincent has forced himself into consideration for the Black Caps' limited overs squad for next month's matches against Bangladesh.

The former Black Cap has only been back in New Zealand for a month. He stepped down from international cricket at the end of 2007.

Black Caps selector Mark Greatbatch says Vincent made a slow start to the domestic Twenty20 competition, but has impressed in recent matches.

"He's an impact player and he's got a bit of pedigree behind him as an international cricketer. So he's obviously in the mix."

Greatbatch says he is taking a good look at Vincent, as Jesse Ryder is still struggling with a groin injury.

"He's had a bit of a relapse with his injury and he's still got quite a bit of work to do to get and play club cricket and for Wellington. So he's a fair way off unfortunately at the moment."

Greatbatch is remaining closely guarded over any potential coaching position within the New Zealand side. With the inbound tour against Bangladesh fast approaching, New Zealand Cricket is yet to confirm its coaching set-up.

Greatbatch is giving little away about what involvement he may or may not have.

"There's a process in place at the moment and I think that's happening."

The Black Caps' squad is expected to be named before the domestic Twenty20 final at the end of the month.
