Cricket: Waugh on break

It will be football and horses rather than cricket for Mark Waugh after he opted against a stint of English county cricket this year.

Waugh's manager, Leo Karis, said yesterday that his client had decided to stay at home and have a break from cricket. He hopes that will end with Australia's tour to Pakistan in September.

The 37-year-old Waugh, who was dropped from the one-day team, would have been a borderline selection for the cancelled tour of Zimbabwe.

In the meantime, he intends occupying himself with watching the Bulldogs rugby league team and going to the trots.
