Cricket: Spearman saves Gloucestershire

Former New Zealand opening batsman Craig Spearman saved Gloucestershire from defeat in their English county cricket championship match against Derbyshire at Derby yesterday.

Spearman hit 95 as Gloucestershire, trailing by 219 on the first innings, reached 225 for seven at stumps to secure a draw.

Gloucestershire, coached by former New Zealand allrounder John Bracewell, were bowled out for 179 in their first innings, with Derbyshire making 398.
