Boxing: Gardner out of Games

Featherweight boxer Scott Gardner has withdrawn from the Commonwealth Games in March with a hand injury.

Gardner, from Wellington, cut his left hand, severing tendons. The hand is now in a cast for six weeks, with a further six weeks needed after that before he can start training.

"We had high hopes for Scott at the Commonwealth Games and this is devastating news," said boxing New Zealand president Keith Walker.
