ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) South Africa batsman Hashim Amla and fast bowler Dale Steyn returned as captain AB de Villiers won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan in the third one-day international on Wednesday.
Last month, Amla returned home for the birth of hissecond child and Steyn was rested after the test series was tied 1-1. Both were named in the playing XI with the one-day series tied 1-1.
Amla replaced Colin Ingram at the top of the order while Steyn came in place of Wayne Parnell.
Graeme Smith was withdrawn from the remainder of the one-day series. Smith has been diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome after he was hit on the head by fast bowler Mohammad Irfan's bouncer during the second test at Dubai last month, Proteas manager Dr. Muhammed Moosajee said.
Pakistan brought in Asad Shafiq in place of struggling opening batsman Nasir Jamshed.
South Africa won the first match by 1 run after Pakistan collapsed while chasing 183 runs. Pakistan came back strongly and won the second match at Dubai by 66 runs.
