A Hamilton teenager whose nearly $20,000 in fines was written off by the Hamilton District Court last year has clocked up a further $9205.
Clinton Lawrence Bidois, 18, was given 12 months' periodic detention in lieu of $19,338 of fines when he appeared in court last year.
He was back in court
last week on a drink-driving charge.
His lawyer, David Allen, asked community magistrate Geraldine Scott to impose a fine and disqualification and said Bidois could pay a fine given time.
Collections officer Ian Bardsley said that since the court wrote off the $19,338 in fines eight months ago Bidois had amassed at least $1000 a month in new fines.
Bidois said the collections department computers had made a mistake.
Ms Scott imposed a further $150 fine on Bidois' drink-driving charge and $130 court costs, taking his total to $9205.
