Wairarapa's Alex Fafeita was a star act at the North Island secondary schools track-and-field championships held in Tauranga over the weekend.

The national age group representative came away with gold medals in the senior boys' shot put and open boys hammer throw events and a silver medal in the senior boys' discus.

The shot put victory gave Fafeita revenge over Taranaki's Kyle van der Merwe who had beaten him for the discus crown. It was a close go though with Fafeita's having a best put of 16.37m and Van der Merwe 16.26m.

Fafeita's open boys' hammer throw title came more comfortably with his 63.27m throw giving him a handy advantage over Matthew Bloxham of North Harbour who threw 57.86m.

Fafeita was one of a trio of gold medal winners for the small but powerful Wairarapa contingent, others being Finn Yeats in the junior boys' high jump and Alison Andrews-Paul in the intermediate girls' 800m.

Yeats won his title with a leap of 1.80m while Andrews-Paul clocked a slick 2min 13.48secs in her 800m success, having over 1secs to spare from the second placegetter.

Andrews-Paul was also second in the intermediate girls' 1500m and others to earn silver medals were Connor Henare (int boys' triple jump), Toyah Churton (junior girls' triple jump), Daniel Anstis (AWD boys' 100m and 200m) and Keelan Ward (AWD boys' 400m). Bronze medals were won by Keelan Ward (AWD boys' 100m), Daniel Anstis (AWD boys' 400m), Lisa Makaohi (junior girls' discus) and Sian Chapman (int girls' 100m).

Notified Wairarapa placings in finals are.
