Nai Yin Xue appeared in Auckland District Court this morning and was remanded in custody until April 30.
Xue, 53, has been charged with the murder of his wife Anan Liu who was found in the boot of their family car outside their Mt Roskill home, last September.
Judge McElrea emptied the court to hear applications on which media could photograph Xue's hearings, for how long and how many frames could be taken.
He ruled that one television camera - belonging to TVNZ - could film proceedings. The footage is to be shared amongst other media.
The process took over 30 minutes. Mr Xue appeared relaxed with his arms crossed in front of him as the interpreter filled him in on the media applications.
He was then returned behind the locked door leading to the cells while the public was allowed back into the courtroom.
Xue was brought back into the dock for about another 15 seconds to hear Crown solicitor Mr Moore say police would need until April 30 to finalise the investigation.
