The panic is off. If you haven't got your act together by Christmas Day you've only got one day to cope without the shops or supermarkets.
A survey of services available around Wairarapa shows that it is only one day, Christmas Day, that has most things closed. Service stations are open until mid-day on Christmas Day, but no other stores are open for business. Doctors and dentists are operating on an emergency callout system and there will be no mail delivery until the Wednesday after the Christmas and New Year four day breaks.
Masterton Medical in Lincoln Road operates a roster for GPs to cover the entire Wairarapa. It will be open every day, including Christmas Day, 9am ? 6pm. These hours also pertain to the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of each of the holiday breaks.
Normal hours of the Centre are 8am ? 8pm with an after hours phone number of 06 370 0011.
The Doctors in Masterton's Chapel Street is closed both Christmas and Boxing Day and New Years Day and 2nd January.
They are operating the rest of the time on reduced hours with normal work resuming on 10 January. Their phone number is 06 370 0067.
And, if it's a dentist you need over the holiday break, there is always one on duty. Either ring your local dentist and get the number from the answer phone or the Masterton Hospital has a list of duty medical people.
