Wanganui bore spews warm water

Water from a new bore in Wanganui would be great in a spa pool. Drilling at the east Wanganui site is nearing completion and water spewing out is 36C.

It is almost three times the temperature of water from city supply bores at Kai Iwi, north of Wanganui.

The 720m bore is thought to be the deepest in the country. The water bubbles up at 75 litres a second without help from a pump.

Clearing the water for consumption is expected to take up to five months.
