The remarkable middle distance talents of Masterton's Alison Andrews-Paul were again to the fore on the first day of the Wellington Championships at Newtown Park last weekend.
Competing against runners up to four years older in the girls' 17 years 800m, Andrews-Paul finished second in an impressive 2m 15.25s, justinside the 2m 16.13s she set when winning the junior girls' title at the national secondary schools championships late last year.
The women's 20 years 800m saw Molly Creagh (Carterton) competing over that distance for the first time in three years and she took the title in 2m 18.63s, a personal best by some 6s.
There was double success for Wairarapa in the finals of the 100m for athletes aged 17 years and under.
Sian Chapman of Carterton won the girls' section in 12.93s and Alex Howden of Masterton the boys' crown in a personal best 11.36s.
In the field events, the strong Carterton contingent made their usual powerful impact, with Tim Girling-McLean and Alex Fafeita both winning their age groups in the shot put.
