Victim named in homicide case

Police have released the name of a man killed in Tauranga this week - and revealed that the case is being treated as a homicide.

The victim was Colin Anthony Bidois, aged 50. His body was discovered in 4th Ave on Tuesday night.

Police have been liaising with Mr Bidois' family, who have asked for privacy.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said police were now conducting a homicide investigation.

"Good process is being made."

The post-mortem examination has been completed but the results would not be released.

Inquiries have focused on identifying and interviewing witnesses and scene examination by ESR scientists.

A 43-year-old sickness beneficiary from Tauranga has been arrested for alleged assault.

Mr Turner said the investigation would be reviewed with the Crown Solicitor before a decision was made on the appropriate charges.

"As the matter is before the courts, police will make no further comment."

Police want to speak to anyone who might have been in 4th Ave, Tauranga between 6pm and 10pm on Tuesday.
