Wairarapa United is to have their own home.
The region's highest profile soccer club will transfer their playing and administrative headquarters to the Pugh Sportsbowl in Masterton in the 2007 season.
It's a major shift from the past where they have operated out of premises run by the Masterton and Carterton clubs
and will see all their own home games played at their new venue.
Wairarapa United spokesman Phil Keinzley labelled the change as a "breath of fresh air" for the club.
He said they were very grateful to the support given them by Masterton and Carterton and would, in fact, be maintaining ties with the Carterton club in that training sessions would still be held under the lights there.
But he said the aim had always been to provide Wairarapa United with a neutral home ground and after talks with Masterton Mayor Bob Francis the decision to move to the Pugh Sportsbowl had been made.
"It's something we've had in mind for a good while and with Bob's input we've come up with a home which should prove beneficial, not only to Wairarapa United but to soccer as a whole," he said. "It's an ideal venue for players and spectators, it's exactly what we have been looking for."
Keinzley himself coached Wairarapa United's top side to a third placing in the very competitive Capital premier division last year but he will not be in the coaching role again in 2007.
Instead he will concentrating his energies on ensuring that everything possible is done off-the-field to lift the performances of their teams on the actual field of play.
"The whole idea is have the coaches focusing entirely on coaching???we don't want to load them with anything else at all, " he said.
Just who will replace Keinzley as coach of the Capital premier division side is yet to be decided.
No formal applications have been made but Keinzley said talks were in progress with "three or four" possible aspirants, all of whom were capable of doing a good job.
"It's important to get someone into place quickly so they can start preparing for next season so Id expect the appointment to be made within the next fortnight or so," he said.
Keinzley is confident that Wairarapa United will again be a major force in the premier division series, predicting, in fact, that they might well have a stronger line-up than they did this year.
Apart from defender Petero Dauniseka, who has returned to Fiji, all members of last season's squad were available again and there was also the prospect of other overseas players joining the fray from Fiji and Scotland
"Everything seems to be moving in the right direction??..I think it's fair to say there are some exciting times ahead," he said.
