Underaged driver at wheel in fatal Gore crash

A 14-year-old was at the wheel of a car which crashed early this morning near Gore killing two young people.

All four of the car's occupants were fourteen. One boy was flown to Dunedin Hospital with moderate to serious injuries, and a girl was taken to Gore Hospital with moderate injuries.

It is believed the car crossed on to the wrong side of the road, careered into a roadside ditch and struck a tree stump before coming to rest on its roof in a nearby paddock.

A police investigation has begun to determine the cause of the crash which was on a straight stretch of road.

The names of the deceased are not yet available.
