Two children were airlifted from the Rainbow Ski Field near Nelson Lakes this afternoon after injuring their backs in falls.
The 15-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy from Kaikoura had been taking part in skiing training when they fell, the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter said.
The girl suffered head and backinjuries when she fell on a downhill run. She was flown to Nelson Hospital in a stable condition.
The boy was later flown to Wairau Hospital in Blenheim with minor back injuries after a similar incident.
Both were assessed and initially treated by the helicopter's intensive care paramedic before being stabilised for their flights.
