Tourist hurt on fun ride

A Swedish tourist suffered serious injuries during an adventure ride in Queenstown yesterday.

The 29-year-old woman was on a "fly-by-wire" ride when the accident happened.

She was flown to hospital in Dunedin with serious arm injuries.

Fly-by-wire is a high-speed ride in which the pilot is strapped into a self-powered, rocket-shaped capsule suspended on wires.

Meanwhile, a man suffered moderate back injuries when he landed heavily during a parapenting ride in the area at midday yesterday.

He was taken to Lakes District Hospital in Queenstown.
