A German tourist was attacked from behind and robbed of his bag, wallet and passport in Nelson early this morning,
Police said the 29-year-old man had been walking along Rutherford St when he was approached by two men about 3am.
"He was kicked and punched before the attackers took his belongings and ran off in the direction of Montgomery Carpark," police said.
Passers-by came to help the tourist. He was treated at hospital for minor injuries and was now receiving victim support.
Police said the man's black Nike sports bag, with red ends, contained his clothing, passport and wallet, which held cash in 50 and 100 euro notes.
One of the attackers was described as short and wearing dark shorts, a white and black top and a cap. The second man, who was taller, was also wearing dark shorts and a dark shirt.
