Wairarapa aren't expecting any favours when they play Wanganui in a senior representative tennis match at Wanganui on Sunday. Wanganui are regarded as one of the stronger teams in the central region and being at home they are likely to be at full strength. Even so Wairarapa selector Steve Hurley is confidenthis side will give a good account of themselves. The men, especially, should make their presence felt with Jono Hurley leading the way there, supported by Baden Stevenson, Matt Spooner, Geoff Janse, Lance Atkinson and Mike Jackson. Katie Wyeth will head the women's section and she will be joined by Ashleigh Gane, Carla Didsbury, Rosie Aitkenhead, Charlotte Meo and Natasha Robinson. On the club scene tomorrow regional one favourites Pirinoa should have an interesting match with Carterton, which upset Opaki last weekend. That success was a classic illustration of how one player can affect the result of a game with Matt Spooner returning to the Carterton line-up and winning both his singles and doubles. If Spooner is on deck again tomorrow even Pirinoa could be put to the test although they do appear to have greater depth in their line-up and that should be enough to get them home. Martinborough were beaten 6-3 by Pirinoa last weekend but will be expected to bounce back to winning form when they play Gladstone and Opaki should do likewise when they take on Masterton.
