Two 16-year-old boys were in police custody today after two Mack trucks, worth around $160,000 each, were taken from a Northland trucking and haulage company's yard in Whangarei sometime on Saturday night.
One truck was found undamaged by police in the early hours of yesterday morning at Springs Flat, on theoutskirts of the city, with a 16-year-old boy behind the wheel.
The second truck was located later in the morning abandoned on a back road near Whangarei. It had received minor damage.
Sergeant Murray Stapp said two youths had been charged with burgling the company's yard to gain entry and with unlawfully taking the two trucks.
They were both to appear in the Whangarei District Court tomorrow.
