A teenager has admitted bashing an off-duty policeman outside a Hastings party last month.
City Charles Timu, 17, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Napier Detective Sergeant Dan Foley when he appeared in Hastings District Court yesterday, The Dominion Post reported.
Mr Foley, 51, was attacked by Timu when he tried to break up a fight and was left lying in the gutter in a pool of blood, with a smashed eye socket, bleeding brain and severe cuts.
He spent a week in intensive care in Hawke's Bay Hospital, and was still recovering at home.
Timu fled the scene but was found the next day and arrested.
He was yesterday remanded in custody for sentencing on December 15.
