A 27-year-old male taxi driver died at the scene of a collision between his taxi and a four-wheel drive vehicle in South Auckland early today, police said.
The man's name would probably be released tomorrow.
The crash happened at 5.55am in Westfield.
Several roads were closed and morning commuter traffic was disrupted for about two hours while the police serious crash unit took measurements and cleaned up the debris.
It was understood the taxi driver was not carrying passengers at the time, Otahuhu police said.
The crash was still being investigated and police appealed for witnesses.
