A tagger got a Guy Fawkes Day rocket yesterday when a Napier District Court judge jailed him for six weeks and ordered him to pay $5590 for the damage he had caused.
Nineteen-year-old Jason John Spark, of Napier, admitted tagging 32 buildings and fences around Napier in September.
The sentence came as
businesses and communities in Hastings and Napier were again wondering what to do about another weekend of tagging and graffiti, with several dozen buildings in Hastings targeted.
In court yesterday, Judge Mark Perkins said he would make an example of Spark, and any other taggers who came before him.
Judge Perkins had warned Spark on August 15 when he appeared before him on a wilful damage charge, that if he appeared again on a similar charge he would go to jail.
Two weeks later Spark was caught again spray-painting around Napier.
