A CHARGE of disorderly behaviour against a Masterton man who "streaked" on to the field during a Lions match last June, was withdrawn in Masterton District Court yesterday.
Brad Wayne Ryan, 24, an apprentice plumber had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Judge Ian Mill on July
7.
He was offered diversion, which he completed on August 21.
There was no appearance yesterday by Ryan to hear that the charge had been withdrawn.
On June 28, before thousands of Manawatu fans who had packed Palmerston North stadium to watch their team play the Lions during their New Zealand tour, Ryan made it past police and on to the pitch, naked except for a pair of socks and carrying a cellphone.
At the time he said he "didn't know why I did it really ? it was sort of a part dare from my flatmate".
But apparently there was a plan behind it all, and remembering past streaking stunts which had been sponsored by a certain phone company, Ryan took his phone and dodged policemen long enough to make a call to a friend in the hope that a phone company might pick up on his actions and cut him a deal.
Unfortunately he did not get through to his mate, but instead got a message from Vodafone telling him that his credit had expired.
His exploits ended when he was brought down by a tackle from behind and spent the rest of the game in a borrowed jump suit in the back of a paddy wagon.
