Stewart Island man dies in African kayaking accident

A Stewart Island man has died in a kayaking accident in Africa.

Grant Cave, 25, disappeared while kayaking at the Moemba Falls Rapids, in Zambia, on October 14, police national missing persons' unit head Detective Sergeant Liam Clinton said.

The rapids are about 70km downstream from Victoria Falls, on the Zambia-Zimbabwe border.

It was believed Mr Cave got into difficulty while going through the rapids and was unable to get himself out of trouble.

Those travelling with him were also unable to help.
