Stars given early shower

Greytown sent Red Star packing early in their Bidwell Cup senior inter-club cricket match at Rathlkeale College on Saturday.
The southerners always looked likely to pick up maximum points after they built up a 95-run first innings lead, and with Stars crumbling badly in their second innings they won by an innings and 25 runs.
It was Wairarapa representative Seth Rance who again spearheaded the Greytown attack.
He was all fire and brimstone in taking 4-28 as Red Star was dismissed for just 69.
He was well supported by Dean Southey who took 2-36.
The only Red Star batsmen to show any real resistance was Jarrod Watt who was typically belligerent in getting through to 31.
Wairarapa College outplayed Academy with bat and ball in securing an outright win in their match at Wairarapa College.
The students led by 57 runs on the first innings and then set up their victory by having Academy all out for just 105 in their second "dig".
Joel Macklin was the star of the Wairarapa College attack in taking 5-30 while Jeremy Anderson chimed in with 3-26.
Top scoring for Academy was Forster with 36 while Richard Lewis made 22.
Wairarapa College reached their target for the loss of just three second innings wickets with Sam Monaghan unbeaten on 41 not out.
Rathkeale College took first innings points in their Bidwell Cup match with Lansdowne at Rathkeale College.
Leading by 30 runs when they went in to bat a second time, Rathkeale declared their second innings closed at 186-6.
Major contributions came from Simon Clinton-Baker (46), Dean van Deventer (37) and Andy Dodd (30) while bowling for Lansdowne Robin James took 4-25.
Lansdowne were 91-4 in their second innings when play ended with Miller on 32.
Doug Bracewell and Clinton-Baker had taken two wickets apiece for Rathkeale.
