A Whanganui corner store was robbed overnight.
At approximately 8:20pm last night Police responded to a report of an aggravated robbery at a dairy on Fitzherbert Avenue, Springvale, Whanganui.
The dairy was shut this morning and police cordons remained in place.
It is alleged that two offenders entered the premises, one armed with a firearm and the other with another weapon.
Police Detective Sergeant Varnia Allan said the pair stole cash and cigarettes.
"The offenders were confronted by the dairy owner as they were leaving the premises, and a scuffle ensued.
"The owner was injured and taken to Whanganui Hospital where he was treated and discharged,"
The two offenders fled the scene in a stolen vehicle which has since been recovered.
Police immediately responded and made area enquiries.
Further enquiries are now being made including speaking with the shop owner and witnesses, conducting a scene examination and reviewing CCTV footage.
The shop owner is being supported by Police and Victim Support services.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the Springvale area around this time and seen anything suspicious.
Specifically Police are looking for sightings of a White 1993 Toyota Corolla and a small silver car that was seen being overtaken by the Toyota immediately after the robbery.
