Shooting 'dispute over property'

Police are still getting to the bottom of a high-profile shooting in Auckland's upmarket city quarter, Britomart, earlier this month.

However, the Herald can now reveal the woman victim - who was shot in the leg - was caught up in a "dispute over property".

The 29-year-old woman was shot in the leg at about 10am on Saturday, December 5, in a hotel room near the top of the 38-level Harbour Oaks apartment building on Gore St.

The shooting attracted a large police and media presence because of its central city location, and the ongoing mystery that has surrounded the case.

At the time, Senior Sergeant Danny Meade said it was believed the victim was visiting a man who was booked into the hotel, which also rents more permanent apartment accommodation.

Hotel staff rushed to help the woman before an ambulance arrived and she was stretchered down to the lobby and taken to Auckland Hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries.

She underwent surgery that night, and was interviewed by officers at her hospital bedside the next day.

However, a police spokeswoman said the victim was not "forthcoming with information" and officers were still trying to get to the bottom of what occurred.

It was known that two men left the room after the shooting, and that all three people were known to police and each other before the shooting.

There was no evidence of drugs being manufactured inside the room. An update on the investigation provided to the Herald today, said: "The investigation into the recent shooting in Gore St is ongoing. Some witnesses are of greater assistance to it than others.

"No one has been arrested and obviously no charges have been laid. Investigations to date suggest the situation arose after a dispute between two parties over property."
