AGE is proving no barrier to Greytown youngster Gregory Bentley at simulated gamebird shoots being held by the Wairarapa Pistol and Shooting Sports Club. The 10-year-old joined the club two years ago and is the only member to have taken part in all 24 of their shoots during the 2006 season. Andhe has made a big impression with his best score being an impressive 56 targets out of a possible 60. The youngster is chauffeured to and from the range by his grandfather, well-known Greytown identity Jock Bentley, who was no mean shooter himself. He no longer competes but helps out with scoring or pressing the buttons which release the clay targets. Gregory Bentley was narrowly beaten for the Wairarapa club's junior title by another "ace" shooter in 16-year-old Aaron Wilton of Carterton, and both will be honoured at their annual award ceremony on December 2. A third junior member of the Wairarapa club showing great promise is 15-year-old Hamish McIntosh who, along with his father and grandfather, is a regular competitor at the simulated gamebird shoots. The next major competition for the club at their Gladstone range is a 100-target simulated gamebird shoot on December 2 and Gregory Bentley, Aaron Wilton and Hamish McIntosh will be amongst the competitors there.
