A Christchurch tyre factory worker has suffered a serious arm injury on the same machine involved in a fatal accident a year ago.
Occupational Safety and Health are today investigating the incident after the man was caught in the machine at the Bridgestone-Firestone factory yesterday.
Firestone Employees Society secretary Mike Freeman said
staff were in shock after the accident, which happened on a different part of the same machine that killed Adam Hopkins just over a year ago.
"We are shocked that it could happen again, and the timing of it is just unbelievable."
Mr Freeman said the man who was injured was experienced, but workers would wait for the findings of the OSH investigation before taking action.
Mr Hopkinson, 30, died on February 20 last year after being trapped in a mill that processed raw materials into rubber.
The company was fined $37,000 for failing to ensure machinery was adequately guarded.
It accepted in court that it had failed to take all steps to ensure machinery was safe to use.
