Searchers yesterday found the body of 6-year-old Matthew McQuoid, who drowned in the Waikato River a week ago.
Matthew floated 10km from where he drowned after falling off a pontoon at Ngaruawahia's Turangawaewae Marae.
He had been fishing with his 9-year-old brother, Aaron.
Acting Sergeant Gavin Hall said volunteers found his body caught
in debris, 1km upstream from the Tainui bridge in Huntly. It was recovered from the river by the police rescue boat.
Matthew's father, Trevor Colin McQuoid, died suddenly on Thursday after learning of his son's disappearance.
Hundreds of volunteers had joined the river search for Aaron.
Meanwhile, police have recovered the body of a man who drowned at a popular Taumarunui swimming spot on Saturday.
Taumarunui man Steven John Martyn, aged 30, went missing at 11 pm after diving in for a swim at the Cherry Grove reserve, near the junction of the Ongarue and Wanganui rivers.
