Round the Vines puts fun in run

This past week I've been learning some new things.

I've been ferreting about in the world of Twitter, updating who @WairarapaTA is following and finding new people sharing interesting things that are worth knowing about, and passing on.

Though I've never been much of a tweeter, or that interested in following celebrities or people who tweet what they're having for breakfast, I do think it's a great way of getting quick updates on what's happening locally, and on things you want to know about.

We're trying to share more of the information you might need - local weather, breaking news, and details about events - and I've been quietly impressed by the number of local people I've found doing and sharing fascinating things.

From stuff they're creating, growing, making, and selling, to events and gigs and fun runs and fundraisers - it's exhausting just reading about it.

Yesterday the place to be in Wairarapa was undoubtedly Martinborough for the annual Round the Vines fundraiser for Martinborough school.

Just as thousands of Aucklanders were traipsing en masse around the bays, we in Wairarapa were taking a slightly more civilised approach.

The annual fun run and walk takes place among the beautiful wineries of Martinborough, where drinks stations are stocked with samples of the the vineyard's wares. Now that's my kind of fun run.

Walkers are urged to restrict themselves to just one sample from each winery - and with the weather yesterday, that would have been a very sensible approach.

Pictures of the event are on page 5. On such a stunning, summery Wairarapa day, it's hard to imagine a better way to spend a Sunday morning.
