Retirement fund for teachers

Teachers will soon be able to invest in a retirement fund which features Government contributions, in a scheme announced by Education Minister Trevor Mallard.

Details have to be worked out but the scheme has been welcomed by teacher unions and the Public Service Association, which would like it to be extended to public servants.

The idea was introduced as part of the collective agreement for primary school teachers last year.
