Emergency services are responding to reports a fire has broken out in the cockpit of a plane at an Auckland airforce base this afternoon.
The New Zealand Defence Force clarified the response was in relation to a fire warning light, but there was no fire onboard the plane.
Fire and Emergency NZ responded to reports of a fire in the cockpit of an aircraft at Whenuapai Airport at 12.41pm today. One fire truck is currently attending to this incident.
A C130 Hercules plane landed at the base about 12.47pm, according to Flightradar24.
The NZDF confirmed the Hercules was returning to Whenuapai when the crew shut one engine down due to the warning light.
“The aircraft landed without incident and an investigation is being carried out,” an NZDF spokesperson said.
“The crew followed proper procedure at all times as per their training.”
