A SUPERB all round performance by Seth Rance highlighted Greytown's five-wicket win over Lansdowne in a Wairarapa Cricket Association Umpire's Cup match on Saturday.
Rance claimed four wickets for 24 runs off seven overs when he opened the bowling in Lansdowne's innings which closed at just 135. He was well supported
by fourth change bowler Willie Tatham who took 4-9 off his seven overs.
There were just the two knocks of any note for Lansdowne, Robin James striking two fours and two sixes in his 61 and opener John Hannam three fours in his 24.
A hard-hitting 43 not out by Rance sealed the Greytown win after Paul Lyttle had made 33 and Tatham 27. Rance struck four fours and two sixes as Greytown reached the target in 31 overs.
Red Star started the underdogs against Rathkeale College but ran out comfortable winners. Joe Hulll (32) and Jarrod Watt (52) saw them through to a respectable 184-9 against a Rathkeale attack led by Andy Dodd (3-39) and then despite good knocks from Doug Bracewell (48) and Dean van Deventer (46) Rathkeale reached just 130.
Wairarapa College also pulled off an upset when they scored a comfortable win over the previously unbeaten Academy.
The students would have pleased with their 209, of which Tim Butler (58), Jeremy Anderson (68) and Sam Monaghan (38) were the main contributors and then they had Academy 160-9 of which the consistent Jamie Perkin made 36.
