A MASTERTON Park team skipped by Colin Pugh prevailed over a good entry of 20 teams in the Pahiatua DB triples outdoor bowls tournament played at Pahiatua.
Pugh, David Whitehead and Barry Allen won all four of their matches to take the overall honours.
A past president of Masterton Park in the
late Andy Namana was remembered by the naming of a trophy in his name for a mixed pairs tourney in which 16 teams took part.
Winners were Mark Morete and Dawn Towgood who finished with four wins.
There was a pleasing entry too in the Claude Andrew triples which was the first club event at Masterton Park for this season to be played on the cotula green, which was running at an admirable 16secs, a credit to Willis St Clair, Brian Janes and their management team.
Once again it was Colin Pugh who was the successful skip, this time having Gordon Manley at two and Sandy Palmer at lead.
They finished with three wins and a draw, being denied their fourth win when opposing skip Frank Meyrick drew brilliantly with his final bowl to tie the result.
This Saturday will see the playing of the Darby Tiangahue mixed triples, another tourney at which a valued past member of Masterton Park is remembered.
